Boston (November 24, 2014) –

The Massachusetts Manufacturing Energy Collaborative (MassMEC) is inviting members of Smaller Business Association of New England to save on the cost of  electricity and gas this winter by joining its energy buying group.

MassMEC reached out to SBANE participants after the majority of exhibitors and members who attended SBANE’s Prospectus Event had energy costs as a top-level priority.

MassMEC, which was first announced by Governor Patrick in April, enables manufacturers and companies to lower their energy costs by negotiating volume rates from electricity and natural gas suppliers. It also provides free renewable energy reviews and consultations.

“Since April, over 100 manufacturers and businesses throughout Massachusetts have joined MassMEC to save on electricity and heating costs,” said Shaun Pandit, manager of MassMEC. “Our goal is to help small businesses save on energy so they can invest more money in their own company and hire more employees.”

David Slutz from Precix Inc., a manufacturer of high performance o-rings and seals for automotive, aerospace and energy markets, faced astronomical winter electric costs breaking $500,000. After reaching out to MassMEC, David secured $35,800 in winter savings against the average supplier and up to $62,770 against their utility. Michael Tamasi from Avon-based Accurounds, an innovative precision instrument manufacturer, also faced high winter electricity rates and sought MassMEC for the best price.  Thanks to the buying group, Michael cut his winter costs by over $3000 compared to other suppliers and an average $7151 compared to the utility. MassMEC also helped Crusader Papers, a converter and distributor out of  North Andover, save an average $1074 this winter on electric bills, compared to the forecasted utility rates.

MassDevelopment, the state’s finance and development agency that created MassMEC, selected EarlyBird Power to manage the Collaborative following a competitive bidding process.
