More than 100 businesses have signed on to the Massachusetts Manufacturing Energy Collaborative (MassMEC) to reduce energy costs by joining in on bulk purchases of power and natural gas, the Milton-based group announced Tuesday.

The group of manufacturers is made up of businesses such as metal manufacturers, restaurants and breweries, to hospitals and real estate properties. Together, the companies will negotiate volume rates from electricity and natural gas suppliers.

MassMEC made its debut in April. It also provides no-cost renewable energy reviews and consultations. MassDevelopment, the state’s finance and development agency that created MassMEC, selected EarlyBird Power of Milton to manage the organization following a competitive bidding process. EarlyBird provides energy management and sustainability solutions to commercial, municipal and industrial clients.

The cost of electricity for National Grid’s providers has jumped 37 percent from last winter, according to MassMEC, while NStar’s prices will increase 29 percent.
